The HH-43B helicopter has an intermeshing rotor known as a "synchrocopter." The two main rotors are driven by the twin shafts of a single transmission and they are mounted side-by-side on individual rotor pylons.

About the Aircraft:
The Kaman Huskie was a redesigned version of the Kaman H-43A helicopter with twice the interior space and payload capacity. It featured a Lycoming T53-L-1B gas turbine engine. The Huskie was the winner of a 1956 Air Force competition for a helicopter that would excel in "Local Crash Rescue Missions." The initial delivery of this helicopter was in 1958 and production continued for another decade. The helicopters saw extensive duty in Vietnam where they rescued thousands of flyers. Huskies set performance, endurance and safety records during their crash rescue and disaster assistance missions. In 1961, an HH-43B set an altitude record of 32,840 feet. That aircraft also set then-world rate-of-climb records of 3,000 meters in two hours and 42 minutes; and 9,000 meters in 14 hours and 12 minutes.

About the Aircraft:
The Kaman HOK-1 first flew in 1953 in last year of the Korean War. The HOK was the first helicopter designed to military specifications and the Kaman Huskie was a modification of the HOK. The HOK was powered by Pratt & Whitney reciprocating engines. Kaman produced 105 HOK/HUK helicopters that were flown by the US Marines and US Navy for medical evacuation, observation and training missions.

Operational in the LAMPS ("Light Airborne Multi-Purpose System") mode, the SH-2F was configured with a sophisticated package of electronic and electromagnetic sensors and weapons systems for antisubmarine warfare and antiship missile defense. In addition to its LAMPS roles, the Seasprite performed the traditional search and rescue, medical evacuation, surveillance and reconnaissance and personnel transfer roles.

About the Aircraft:
On December 10, 1951 a modified K-225 became the first helicopter in the world to fly powered by a gas turbine engine. The actual aircraft resides at the Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. The K-225 was used for pesticide spraying in several eastern states.
