Aviation Scholarships

HFI annually offers up to 19 scholarships to help support students studying to become part of tomorrow’s vertical aviation industry. If you are enrolled in either pilot or maintenance technician training, then review the scholarship descriptions below and consider applying for an HFI scholarship.

2018 scholarships are accepted beginning September 1.

The deadline to submit applications is November 30, 2017. HFI will notify scholarship applicants by January 15, 2018, of their status.


Bill Sanderson Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Scholarships

This scholarship provides awards to attend a maintenance course from a selection offered by airframe and powerplant manufacturers. Up to eight scholarships may be awarded.

Commercial Helicopter Pilot Rating Scholarships

This scholarship provides $5,000 to applicants who want to attain their commercial helicopter ratings. Applicants must already have their private pilot’s license and be enrolled in a commercial helicopter rating program at an FAA-approved Part 141 school or international equivalent. Up to four scholarships may be awarded.

Maintenance Technician Certificate Scholarships

This scholarship provides $2,500 to applicants who are in training to become aviation maintenance technicians. Applicants must already be enrolled in a maintenance technician certificate program at an FAA-approved Part 147 school or international equivalent. Up to six scholarships may be awarded.

Michelle North Scholarship for Safety

This scholarship provides full tuition to attend the Safety Management course offered as part of the HAI Professional Education Program, which is held annually at HAI HELI-EXPO. Applicants must already have their commercial helicopter rating and must demonstrate an outstanding aptitude for safe flying and aviation best practices. One scholarship may be awarded.
